Early Musings

Arriving in Amsterdam slightly disheveled and confused from a long overnight flight we boarded a train from the airport into the city.  Immediate observations of the physical geography of the Netherlands indicated that the countryside and highways were very similar to North America, with flat fields and farmland slowly turning into office buildings and residential areas. Arriving in downtown Amsterdam however these similarities soon vanished. As we began our trip by taking a cruise through the canals of Amsterdam the narrow streets, abundance of bicycles, and renaissance architecture were in stark contrast to Toronto’s condo dotted skyline and automobile centric infrastructure.

The Standard Photo
Bikes everywhere!
I thought I would include this photo because I have seen people doing this in Christie Pits Park in Toronto.  This photo shows that odd unsanitary bird behaviour is an international phenomenon.
